Postsecondary Success

Join fellow New York educators for professional development workshops to support your students in reaching their postsecondary aspirations! Our workshops—designed for all educators, whether you’re working in a school/district or a community-based non-profit organization—elevate innovative solutions, create community, and lean into data to ensure all students have the power to define their own future.

Sessions, timed at two hours and facilitated virtually, are priced at $50 per person. Choose the workshop(s) that interest you most! Ahead of each session you’ll receive all materials, including resources and tools for your immediate use.

Workshops Offered

Engaging Families Toward Advocacy

 

How can family engagement truly engage families? That’s the question at the center of this workshop, which will delve into both fundamentals to strengthen collaboration as well as elevate a strategy developed by the Right Question Institute that empowers families to be advocates for their children’s success in school.

Looking Inward in the Postsecondary Planning Process

Encouraging students to take intentional time for self-reflection ensures they can be more in tune with how the unique aspects of who they are best inform the path they will take. In this workshop, we’ll share exercises and activities that help students explore their strengths, passions, values, and aspirations to maximize their postsecondary goal-setting and planning.

Making Quality Decisions in Enrollment

 

We’ll explore our “Quality Enrollment” framework and reflect on strategies to support students in making informed decisions about their postsecondary path.

Navigating Mental Health Supports

 

We’ll create space for educators to share perspectives on mental health and well-being, learn from other practitioners’ experiences and strategies, and hear about accessible, free or low-cost resources and tools designed for both students and staff.

Forward

 

Participants will reflect on the value of failure and explore how to re-frame adversity when students are confronted with mistakes or obstacles.

Connecting the Dots on Students’ Networks

 

Participants will explore the importance of networking skills for students and learn more about a four-part framework developed by the Christensen Institute that highlights the key components of strong networks.

Networking can feel daunting at any stage, whether you’re just starting your college journey, about to head into internship season or trying to land a job — your first job or your fourth one! And yet, networking is increasingly important in many career paths. In this workshop, students will gain new perspective on networking and walk away with helpful resources to feel confident next time they meet someone new!

The World is Wide!: Exploring Pathways — For Students!

Figuring out what’s next after graduation can be a daunting decision, especially with all the many potential paths out there. Navigating this decision-making process can feel tricky, but often starts with getting as much information as possible. In this workshop, you’ll hear about a variety of local pathways in tech, healthcare, culinary arts, and service opportunities as well as hear about resources to help you discover additional different careers and pathways.

Building Connections from Classes to Careers

 

We’ll share the activity toolkit for “Build Connections,” an activity OneGoal created in collaboration with Character Lab to empower students to make meaning in their learning.
