OneGoal Houston Announces New Executive Director

Alex Dailey, formerly of Sterling and Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Houston, will lead the region’s postsecondary advising and support work for Houston students.

HOUSTON, May 18, 2023 — Leading postsecondary success organization OneGoal recently named Alex Dailey as its new Executive Director in Houston.

“I know the feeling of uncertainty that comes from aspiring for things that you don’t understand and the confidence that comes from knowing you are not alone,” said Dailey. “I want every student to finish high school with that same confidence and feel the excitement that comes with beginning to see themselves within the spaces in which they aspire to be.”

A lifelong Houstonian, Alex began his career in Washington D.C. as a congressional aide, focusing on constituent services and assisting in the legislative process for a local member of Congress. Through this work, Alex engaged constituents in many of Houston’s most culturally rich neighborhoods.

He began his nonprofit career at Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Houston. After nearly seven years as a volunteer Big Brother to a young man, Alex was excited to lead all non-program-related goals for the agency, including fund development, volunteer recruitment, and marketing and communications. At BBBS, he grew the programs with his knowledge and experience, which he will now bring to OneGoal. His most recent role was at Sterling, where he advised and consulted for nonprofits in strategy, fundraising, and programs.

“I am thrilled to welcome Alex to the team of incredible Executive Directors that lead our six regions, and I am confident that OneGoal Houston will be in great hands with him at the helm,” said OneGoal CEO Melissa Connelly. “OneGoal is part of the fabric of the education system in Houston. As we grow and scale our solutions in the region, Alex’s leadership will ensure we can continue to support thousands of students in the pursuit of their personal and professional ambitions.”

Alex credits his hometown with inspiring his passion for supporting the causes he cares most about, and his love of Houston knows no bounds. He earned a B.A. in Business Marketing from Texas Tech University and a J.D. from South Texas College of Law.

This year, OneGoal Houston served 2,650 students across 23 high schools. Alex will support the organization to grow the number of students served in the nine-county Greater Houston region.

OneGoal transforms postsecondary advising and support so that every student can define their own future. Together with our partners, we’re building a movement to close the opportunity gap. We work side-by-side with partner schools and districts to build their knowledge and capacity. The result is more equitable and effective support for all students. Our unique approach, honed over 15 years, prioritizes strong human relationships. And it’s proven to deliver real student impact. 82% of OneGoal high school graduates enroll in a postsecondary institution, and 73% of those who enroll persist one year after high school. An independent study by the University of Chicago found that OneGoal students are about 40% more likely to earn their postsecondary degrees than students from similar backgrounds.
